Briefing · Required Documents
Your
paperwork.
Two documents to bring on day one.
Everything else, we handle at the school.
When you show up for your first lesson, you only need two documents in hand. Onboarding forms, AOA badge paperwork, logbook supply, and the FAA Student Pilot Certificate: we walk you through all of it in person at the school, either on the day of your first lesson or later in your training. Nothing has to be done before you join the waitlist.
Bring These on Day One
Strongly Recommended Before You Start
We recommend that you have at least a Third Class medical certificate before you start training. It is required before your first solo flight, but more importantly it confirms that you do not have any disqualifying conditions before you invest in lessons. Better to find out early than after you have spent money on training.
Our recommended local AME is Dr. Hertzog in Long Beach, who runs a fast, no-nonsense exam. Call ahead to schedule.
We Handle These at the School
Electronic Onboarding FormsDone in person at the office · first lesson
Our student onboarding is fully electronic and completed in person at the office on the day of your first lesson. It captures your contact details, emergency contact, training goals, and basic background. It is quick (usually about ten minutes) and you do not need to do anything before you arrive.
Pilot Logbook & Study MaterialsAvailable in the school store
You will need a pilot logbook to record your flight time, ground instruction, and instructor endorsements. We stock logbooks and other study materials in the school store, pick one up on day one. Your instructor will show you how to properly log each flight from your first session onward.
Long Beach Airport AOA Security BadgeForm started at your first lesson
Long Beach Airport requires an AOA (Airport Operations Area) security badge for anyone accessing the ramp and aircraft parking areas on their own. You will complete the AOA badge application on your first lesson with our help. We provide the required authorization documentation from Aces High Aviation. You just need your ID and citizenship docs.
FAA Student Pilot CertificateDone later · with your instructor on the office computer
The FAA Student Pilot Certificate is issued through the Integrated Airman Certification and Rating Application (IACRA) system. This is done at a later date, with your instructor sitting next to you at the office computer, not on your first lesson. The certificate is mailed to you after processing and must be in your possession whenever you fly solo.
